Jobs to Build On (JTBO) helps the unemployed and underemployed build careers by focusing on industries that are growing. We provide free job preparation, job searching, career support and job placement to men and women over the age of 18 that have experienced some barriers to employment. Participants must be NYC residents
The program requires each enrollee to work with a case manager to develop a work readiness and employment plan. The plan details all personal and professional development action steps needed to make the enrollee a viable candidate on the job market. All action plans have employment as the ultimate goal and a set of customizied objectives and benchmarks towards employment.
JTBO maintains partnerships with cooperative organizations such as the DOE Fund, the City University of New York Center of Worker Education, the Fortune Society, and several half-way and three-quarter houses that act as referral sources. Supportive services and content area experts offer program courses in English as a Second Language (ESL), General Equivalency Diploma (GED) preparation, computer skills, resume writing tips, interview preparation, and qualifying for continuing education opportunities throughout New York City.
Program graduates are placed in employment targeting a living wage in a variety of supportive staff positions in New York City’s service industries.
