VETERAN SERVICES

Veterans Employment Services Program (VESP) works directly with the US Department of Labor. This program educates veterans about veteran employment preference, civil service and transitioning into the civilian work force. VESP provides its participants with access and linkages to current city, state and regional employment listings and a national job bank.

ASSISTED COMPETITIVE EMPLOYMENT (ACE) PROGRAM is commissioned by the city and state of New York to facilitate employment training and skills development to severely and persistently mentally ill veterans. Individuals receive hands-on computer training for office skills, resume updates, interviewing techniques and direct job placement assistance.

Homeless Veterans Program (HVP) is a project that provides affordable housing for veterans and low-income families. BVSJ has completed the development of a total of 60 housing units in three apartment buildings located in Bedford Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, NY. With two additional projects on the drawing board, one of which is housing for persons affected with HIV, BVSJ is committed to housing development for veterans and low-income families.

Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) provides employment services to homeless and previously homeless veterans. HVRP also assist in filing claims for benefits, substance abuse assistance along with offering workshops pertaining to job search techniques and barriers to employment.

Community Affairs is a network linkage to various resources for Veterans and the people in our community

INTENSIVE/SUPPORTIVE CASE MANAGEMENT (ICM/SCM) PROGRAM provides services set forth by New York State Office of Mental Health for homeless veterans with mental disabilities and substance abusers. Group and individual counseling in living skills to assist veterans' transition from homelessness to permanent housing are a part of the services provided. Medical follow-ups, support groups for substance abuse recovery, post traumatic stress syndrome and interpersonal group meetings are some of the services administered by these programs.

Assisted Outpatient Treatment Program (AOT) is a court ordered treatment program for clients who have a history of medication non-compliance, and do not normally comply with treatment regimen.
