Board of Directors ResponsibilitiesThe Black Veterans for Social Justice, inc. governed by Board of Directors, board members serve two-year terms normally beginning April 1, and are eligible for re-election to an additional two-year term. The primary qualifications for board members are interest in the veteran issues, and a willingness to devote time and resources to the work on the board. Responsibilities include participation in planning, policymaking, and financial oversight. The board generally meets every quarterly and member can expect to serve on at least one board committee and one program oversight committee. Committees normally meet every month in addition to board meetings. Board members are expected obtain financial contribution to the organization through their personal efforts or by obtaining donations from other sources. Board members are not compensated for their services, but can be reimbursed for travel related expenses, when funds are available. Board Member are required to select program's for oversight, communicating with the VP of programs and the director of selected programs act as an liaison to the board for oversight programs. BVSJ has purchased Board Members and Officers Liability Insurance and has a current Employee Policy Manual, Code of Ethics Policy, and a Financial Management System document that are being used for the organization management. Board members are responsible to the State Attorney General. Through regular meetings, the Board helps ensure effective organizational planning and sees that company resources are managed effectively. The board of directors also sees that the company meets regulatory requirements that apply to that business. The board of directors also must assess its own performance. Provide continuity for the organization by setting up a corporation or legal existence, and to represent the organization's point of view through interpretation of its services and advocacy on BVSJ behave. Select and appoint a chief executive to whom responsibility for the administration of the organization is delegated, including: Govern the organization by broad policies and objectives, formulated and agreed upon by the chief executive and employees, including assigning priorities and ensuring the organization's capacity to carry out programs by continually reviewing its work.
